Research Colloquia Series: Academic Language & Reading Compherension of Deaf Filipino Learners: A Comparative Study

Research Highlights:

This research gathered data from 62 Deaf Filipino college learners using the Questionnaire on Academic Language Skills Perceived Difficulty (Berman & Cheng, 2001) and the Sentence Completion Test derived from Wide Range Achievement Test, 4th Ed. (Bijou & Jastak, 1941).

This study looks into the capacity of sign language (as L1) to influence English reading comprehension ability of deaf learners.

This Provided evidence that Deaf Filipino college learners with high perceived sign receptive proficiency academic language tend to have significantly higher English reading comprehension ability.
